Ch. 5
Walking along for the rest of the day, once the sun started to set the band of heroes were wanting to set up camp. Well, Hope and Silver anyway. The other two were willing to press on, but decided a little rest may be their best option. Arriving upon an area with a small forest, the young girl plopped down on a near by mossy rock, letting out a sigh of relief on impact. She was so glad to get off of her feet because though she will never admit it, the blonde-hair girl wanted to rest about an hour ago.
“I got wood duty!” said the azure hedgehog as he sped off from the group. “I’ve never seen someone so energetic! Boy, I wish I had half his vigor.” Seeing the blue blur speed around everywhere made the human feel weak and lazy by comparison. ‘Well, at least he’s on my side.’ “Hey Hope, so uh what are these berries anyway? Can we eat them?” The ebony male shot him a look and snapped, “No, we can not eat those! The only reason she has them is to keep her company at night.” “You don’t have to be so mean about it.”
“Hey guys! I found this little girl out here alone! Can we keep her? She’s so cute!” Off in the distance from the direction in which the speedster ran off in, his voice came flowing through the trees. Unfortunately for the others, due to his distance from them, the three had to strain to hear those words. After waiting a minute, the oldest hedgehog groaned and strolled off to go see what all of the commotion was about. Sometime later the teenage girl stood up from nature’s chair. “Let’s go see what’s going on. It shouldn’t be taking them this long. I mean, aren’t they the fastest things alive?” “Let me teach you a little lesson Hope. You say to Shadow that he’s the fastest, it puts him in a good mood. Say that to Sonic, it inflates his ego that much more and then he rubs it in Shadow’s face, which makes him annoyed. Long story short, be careful what you say around them.” Once he was finished, they could see the pair of hedgehogs along with a small, rose colored echidna. She had on a faded light-yellow jacket, along with a blue-green scarf. Her shoes were small boots designed in the same colors. Her quills were pulled back in two pigtails. The odd things about her were the scratches on her muzzle and her eyes. What truly caught both of their attentions was the two hedgehogs arguing on the left of the child. “She’s not a pet, Sonic.” “Come on! We kept Hope! Why can’t we keep her?” “She wanted to come with us.” “So does she!” “Do you know that, or are you assuming this? And she? Do you even know her name?” “Well, no but-“ “So you have not asked her yet.” “Not exactly-“ “Sonic! Were not kidnappers! If she wants to come with us, then fine. Why not, but you can’t just take her!” Strolling up to the girl, Hope stopped right in front of her face. She raised her hand right up to the echidna’s eyes, and waved her hand back and forth, mimicking windshield wipers. “Even though I can’t see, you could just ask me if I was blind or not.” The suddenness of the rose echidna’s voice caused everyone to stop and turn to her. The first one to recover was the telekinetic. “Who are you?” “My name is Yumi, Yumi the echidna.” “Do you live near here?” Not to far away.” Sonic popped up from behind the human and asked, ” Do you have any food?” “Sonic!” “Sorry Hope, but I’m not a berry kind of guy.”
“Excuse me, but what are your names?” “My name is Silver!” he said as he let loose one of his goofy smiles. “My name is Hope. Nice to meet you!” “I’m Sonic, Sonic the hedgehog!” giving a thumbs up to her, despite the fact she couldn’t see it. “Shadow. Shadow the hedgehog.” On the sound of his name, her eyelids lifted a slight bit. “Nice to meet you,” She replied in a monotone voice. “I’m sorry to ask this, since we just met, but can you help me back to my home? It will take me a long time to get back on my own.” “Sure thing kid! Hold on tight and tell me where your digs is at!” The blue blur picked up the blind girl and began to race through the thin woods.
“Wait, Sonic! How can she tell you where…she lives.” Giving up on her sentence since the speedster was now long gone, she felt a tap on her shoulder. Turning behind her, she saw the obsidian hedgehog behind her. “I thought I might ask you first, would you care for a lift?” “Uh, sure! Thanks!” Lifting up the girl into his arms, bridal style, he strode off after the two. “Hey! Wait for me! You can’t leave me just because I’m slower!”
When Sonic finally figured out where the new girl lived, he set her down and followed her inside the run down shack. “So, pretty nice place you got here!” “Oh, yeah it’s nice” pointing over to her right, she said, ”That’s the living area, and over there is the kitchen.” Compared to Hope’s makeshift home, this place was a mansion. Although everything was run down, the place was furnished with a couch along with some tables and cabinets. There was a wood-burning stove over in the corner. “Say, who else lives with you? Or are you alone here?” “No, there are others here with me. Over there is where we sleep.” By this time everyone had caught up with the main hero and had entered the house. “ Wow, this a lot better than my place! Where did you find this place, Yumi?” “The same way you did I suppose. We had a bathroom just through there.” Everyone followed the echidna through the rest of the tour, except for the ebony male. Standing in what he was told was the living space, he sat down on the old couch. He couldn’t quite describe it, but he was skeptical of how they met this echidna. ‘Since she’s blind, why did the people living with her let her venture out into the woods alone? Even if she was not blind to begin with, the Doctor would be sure to have this place in his sights to burn down this forest. It is the greenest thing within several miles! Anyone with a brain would know not to let anyone go out alone, especially a child.‘ Footsteps were heard approaching the red-striped male and he assumed them to belong to his traveling company. “It’s about time you came ba-“ A blunt object smashed against his skull with such a force that he lost consciousness instantly.

Back with the others, their tour had led them outside the cabin where Yumi was now showing off the surprisingly fertile garden. “Hey guys, where’s Shadow? Wasn’t he behind us?” The ivory male had turned behind him to see the darker hedgehog was missing.” “Meh, I wouldn’t worry Silver. He probably thought this was lame and decided to wait inside.” Still unsure of the speedster’s words, the telekinetic male replied, “Yeah, you’re probably right.” “Does anyone want a carrot?” “No thanks Yumi, I’m fine.” Hope said while smiling. Abruptly, a figure appeared from behind a tree and struck Sonic in the head with a metal pipe, and he collapsed on the ground. “Sonic! -“ From behind the human, a female fox slipped up from behind, seizing the young girl by the arm and placing a sharp knife-like object on her neck. “Hope!” “I wouldn’t move pot-head, for my hand may just slip.” Unsure of what to do, Silver left an opening for a third creature to wrap her arms around his neck and strangle him. “Silver!” the young girl screamed. As he was being choked, the ivory hedgehog stretched out his hand towards a tree nearby, in hopes he could focus enough to uproot it and strike his attacker. However, the odds were not in his favor. Just as he finally unearthed the tree, the darkness in his eyes took over as his knees gave out and the tree fell while smashing into splinters. “Silver no!” Once sure of his unconscious state, the attacker dropped her prey. Looking at the two foes in front of her, she noticed that one was a tall lynx while the other was a mostly white cat. “Nice job Yumi! I’m surprised you caught the infamous General Shadow!” Looking towards the scared human in front of her, the cat smirked and said, “ So, what should we do with her?” “Well, she doesn’t seem like any trouble. I think there’s a pressure point for humans in their neck. Rin? Care to check?” the lynx alleged “Sure thing Zum!” “W-wait a sec-!” The blonde girl fell to the ground. As she fell, blackness enveloped her eyes.

The first to wake up was Shadow. As he cracked open his eyes, the sights around him were blurred. From what he could make out, he was in some sort of earthly room, filled with what appeared to be stalactites. He tried to move his arm to appease the pounding in his head, but they were tied down to a bolted-down chair. He groaned as he remembered what happened before he blacked out. “Well, looks like our predictions were right. You do recover fast.” Peering to his right, leaning near the only exit, which was man-made, was a snowy-white cat. She was purely white, except for her bright blue hair that was pulled back into a sort of messy bun. Her emerald green eyes showed off a sly emotion, pleased with the current situation. Her outfit was a mahogany halter-top that was torn slightly at the bottom and stopped just below her breasts. Her gloves, which started at her elbows, were the same color and stopped at her palms except for her thumb, pointer and middle fingers, which were half covered. The obsidian leather leggings she wore, which were also torn at some spots, ended at different lengths where her boots started. Separating her boots and her pants were two green bands, the color that matched her eyes. Both her boots began above her knees and were simple in design. The color once again matched her top and gloves perfectly. The only pricy thing on her was an emerald brooch, which was transformed into a choker, which was held by an also green band. As she walked towards the tied up hedgehog, her white and blue tail flicked from side to side. He smirked and replied, “Heh, I guess you can say it is one of my many talents.” “Just like destroying hundreds of villages who don’t fall under Eggman’s rules?” “I would not classify it as a talent, but to each it’s own, as the saying goes.” “You really shouldn’t be making jokes, considering your situation.” “And what is that, exactly?” Turning away from the prisoner, she began to tell what happening. “It’s simple really. Now that we’ve finally captured someone high up in ranking, we’re going to torture out all of Eggman’s greatest secrets and plans.” “And if I don’t cooperate I assume you will kill my comrades?” “Looks like you do understand! Your smarter than you look.” “I appreciate the compliment, though unfortunately I can not return it. You see, your plan has a few holes in it.” Intrigued by his accusation, the snowy cat turned around. “Oh really? I spent a good amount of time thinking it up!” “Not quite. First of all, My allies can handle themselves fairly well.” “You mean that human girl? Who are you trying to trick here? Despite what you think, I’m not stupid.” Shadow let a small growl pass his lips, remembering that Hope was still with him and what could happen to her. “I’m guessing you do know what a few means, right? A few means more than one smarty.” Regaining his composure, the obsidian hedgehog continued,” I fully understand what a few means, don’t worry. Your second and most important mistake was one of mistaken identity. I am not General Shadow. “ Her eyelids flashed open. “Ex-excuse me? What do you mean not General Shadow? Of course you are! You look just like him!” “That does not mean I am him, however. I am Shadow, but I am the Shadow from a separate timeline from your own. In my time I fight against the Doctor, along with Sonic and Silver.” “Sonic? You mean that blue hedgehog. You honestly want me to believe that’s him? You’re dumber than I thought. Sonic died ten years ago. You should know, considering you killed him. There’s no way that’s him!“ If you would listen, I told you already. We are from a different timeline. In our timeline, Sonic is alive.” Soon there was a banging on the door. Hearing the noise the cerulean-haired cat sauntered out of the room. “What leaving so soon? I was just getting to know you,” the ebony male teased. “Don’t worry, I’ll be back in no time.” With that she opened the door and left, it shutting securely behind her.

Not long after the supposed General had woken up, Mobius’ main hero woke up. His head was pounding, and he could feel a small dribble of blood running down the side of his head. He looked down to discover that he was bound to a chair, which was stuck to the floor. The space he was in wasn’t much to look at. All there was were curved in walls, which made him guess he was underground. Also across from him was a metal door. “Heh, nice décor you got here,” he mumbled. “Thanks for your kind words. I’ll let Rin know you like the place.” Strutting through the door was a tall female lynx. Her body type reminded him of the busty companion and partner of Shadow, Rouge the bat. Her eyes were a deep, chocolate brown. One of her eyes was covered by her ebony side bangs, which reached down to her chin. The rest of her long hair was pulled back into a single braid that ended almost at her feet. Just like most other lynxes Sonic had encountered, her feet were bare, but there was a transition from her tan, three toes to her obsidian leg and the top part of her foot. Halfway up her calf started her pants, which were designed like a pair of gypsy pants. At the bottom were mustard-yellow bands, and at the top was a maroon sash-tie. The pants themselves were a navy blue color. Along her torso were scars, most likely made by claws. Her tail was also tipped with scars, which were actually made in some sort of a pattern. The hero guessed one was real, and the other two were made to even it out. Her shirt, which showed all of her stomach, was a faded, burnt-orange and had a short-sleeved cut. The only other thing she wore was a vest-like cape that ended at her knees. The top part was a mustard color, just like the bottom of her pants, and the actual jacket was the same color as her sash. To say she was a beauty would be an understatement. The only downside to her beauty was her left arm was missing. From about halfway above the elbow down, there was no arm.
“Well, what’s your name?” the hedgehog flashed his signature smile. “Oh, my name? It’s the girl who isn’t attracted to you in any way, shape, or form.” “Ooh, your cold! You should meet my friend Shadow. I bet you two would be the best of friends.” Her eyes narrowed, loathing over that name. “If I ever become friends with that bastard, then I’ll be sure to kill myself.” “Whoa, don’t need to be so harsh! It’s just an idea. How come you hate him so much?” “How come? How come. Hah! He helped murder millions of people! And if he didn’t kill them, he would send them to labor camps, where we would be robotized or put to work where we would die.” “Well it wasn’t his idea, it was Eggman’s.” “Does it matter? He could have said no. He could refuse. He could be fighting on our side, but he’s not, is he?” The two remained in silence, until the lynx asked, “It’s not polite to ask someone’s name without giving your own. What’ your name?” “It’s Sonic. Sonic the hedgehog.” Her head snapped and stared at the hedgehog in front of her. “Your…Sonic the hedgehog?” “Yeah, that’s what I said.” The chocolate-eyed female backed away from the blue blur, as if she had seen a ghost. “No…no! He’s been dead for years! You’re lying!” “No, I’m not. I’m Sonic, I’m just not the Sonic from your timeline. “Stop lying to me! It’s not possible!” “I’m telling you the truth!” Interrupting the confusion in the room was a knock at the door. The lynx stared at the hedgehog for a second before leaving. “Hey! You never told me your name!” But before he got an answer, the door slammed shut behind the mysterious lynx.

After the lynx entered the main space outside of the interrogation rooms, the young fox went to the door across the room to get the mostly snowy cat. The young sunny fox had a pale yellow fur while her short, spiky hair was a bright yellow. Her eyes sparkled with an optimistic blue shine. Unlike most foxes, her muzzle had no fuzz off of the sides. Her attire consisted of a plum vest with a white trim. Her top was a faded scarlet tank top, which had a tear on the right side. Her skirt was separated from her shirt by a tight white belt and a looser white belt that slouched off her right hip. Her skirt consisted of the same plum and white trim design as her vest, and in the front, the skirt split revealing an under layer that was a scarlet red. Her boots that came halfway up her calves were the scarlet color and around the ankles and down the sides were plum cloth, just to throw some decoration on the otherwise bland shoe ware. The gloves on her hands were severely torn, but had a plum cuff at her wrists. Her tail remained fluffy and the same color as her fur, until white comes up about halfway, clawing onto the pale yellow, almost as if to gain some more ground on her tail color ratio. After knocking, the cat peered out from the door. The fox asked as she shut the door, “Glad you took on the General, Syd?” The cat sighed leaning against one of the natural walls. “Well, he certainly has an interesting sense of imagination. He was going on about how he’s from a different timeline and how that blue hedgehog is actually Sonic the hedgehog.” “Wait, alternate timeline? He said the same thing!” Sydney turned to the lynx and said, “You honestly don’t believe him, do you Izumi?” “Well he does look like him.” Stunned that her team believed all of the lies. “Not you too Rin!” “Syd, they both have the same story! That’s pretty hard to fake.” Drawing their attention away from the current conversation, Izumi spoke up. “What about the girl or the guy with the boots? Are they up yet?” Walking over to a small computer set-up in the corner, Rin looked at the computer windows that showed into the ivory hedgehog and the blonde girl’s cells. Along with the human, the rosy echidna was also inside the space. Hope was speaking to Yumi, and clearly was not thrilled. “Yep, the girl is up and Yumi is talking to her. The hedgehog is still out, but it shouldn’t be much longer. I’ll go in now. Come and get both me and Yumi five minutes after he wakes up.” “Sure thing, Rin.” As she spoke, the cerulean-haired cat strode over to the door to the right of which she had previously emerged from. Once the door was opened, the young fox slipped in side and the door was shut. “Come and get us once the five minutes are up.” The handicapped female looked at her teammate. “You’re going back in?” “Yeah. I don’t care what I have to do, but I am getting the truth out of him one way or another. Stepping out of the main room, she grabbed a bucket of water and a taser they had stolen from a previous base raid. “Torture? Really Sydney?” “Yeah, really. Sorry if you don’t like my plan, but I really don’t care.” Grabbing her tools, she entered the cell of the ebony hedgehog.

When the human girl awoke, the first thing she saw was the echidna child who betrayed them. “You!” Outraged, she stood up and ran to beat her up. When she pulled back her hand fro an attack, she realized that she was wearing handcuffs. “Wha? Why don’t you fight fair you jerk!” “I’m sorry that you feel that way Hope. Why are you with General Shadow? Were you brainwashed? We don’t want to hurt you if we don’t have to.” “Hurt me? Wait, brainwashed? No! I’m with Shadow and Sonic and Silver because I want to be! Not because I was forced to.” “Sonic the hedgehog is dead, he died ten years ago.” Turning around and sighing, the human replied, “He’s from a different timeline. All of them are. They’re from a time where Sonic is alive and Shadow is good.” “Do you have any proof? Or is that what they told you?” “Look, I get why you don’t believe me. I didn’t either when they first told me. But, I feel like no matter how complicated and weird they’re story is, it’s true.” Silence filled the room, as Yumi tried to sense if she was lying or not. A few minutes passed, and then there was a knock at the door. The youngest interrogator took her leave without anything being said.

What caused the obsidian hedgehog’s eyes to snap open were the sounds of an opening door and the sloshing of water. Reaching her destination of the bound male, she dropped the bucket on the right hand side of the hedgehog. Now using her free hand to grip the ebony hedgehog’s chest fur, she pulled him close to her, a scowl on her face. “I will ask you two questions and you will answer them. If I don’t like your answers, you get hurt. Got it?” “Wow, someone is certainly taking charge. Good for you.” Without warning her right hand, still holding the taser, wound up and struck the male in the jaw. This threw Shadow slightly off guard. “Huh. Didn’t guess you had it in you. Nice arm you have there. I actually felt that.” “Question one. Did Eggman figure out a way to create copy Emeralds? “ “Well, someone likes to get to the point. No, those are real. There are in reality seven Chaos Emeralds. The ones we have came from our timeline. When our Doctor changed our past using four of the Emeralds, they along with him ended up into your timeline. Since we had our three, we also wound up over here since all of the Emeralds share a bond through the Master Emerald.” Subsequent to the hedgehog finishing his statement, the snowy cat punched him again. “Question two, do you have a wire or any other recording and or radio feed device on you?” “Well, since you found my Chaos Emerald, I’m guessing you would have found any sort of device on me, which you didn’t.” Still gripping onto the striped hedgehog’s chest fur, she stared at his face, deciding if he was telling the truth. “Question three, are you working for Eggman?” Sighing because he was annoyed by the repeating questions, Shadow replied, “How many times do I have to repeat myself, no. I do not work for Doctor Eggman.” What followed was another hit for the ebony male. “Do you work for Eggman?” “I said no.” Her fist connected with his face. “Last chance smart guy. Are you working for Eggman?” “This is the last time I will say it. I am not working for Doctor Eggman!” At his response, the emerald-eyed cat let go of her captive and undid the tie around his right elbow. Confused by what the female was doing, the obsidian hedgehog watched as she went into a corner and picked up a rock. Once she returned, using the rope that tied down the hedgehog’s arm, she tied the stone to his wrist, and dropped the stone into the water. When the rock had fully sunk to the bottom of the bucket, the hedgehog’s hand was also submerged. She then commenced to turn on the taser. “Really now, electrocution? That’s your means of torture? I understand you do not have a lot of money and resources, but this won’t work on me.” Turning up the taser to half power to start off. Once she was done, she partially submerged the device so she would not electrocute herself and pressed the switch. Electricity coursed through the water and into the hedgehog’s arm. Besides the ebony male wincing, the shock did nothing to him. “ That’s the best you have?” Frustrated by his words, the snowy female turned the power to three-fourths and shocked the water again. The torture had no affect. ‘That’s it. I’m done with this!’ She turned the power up to full, and thinking the glove he wore lessened the effects of her torture, she ripped it off of his hand.
Just as she flipped over his black and red striped hand to show his palm so she could taser it, she froze as she saw the design of the Chaos wielder’s hand. On his palm was a tattoo of a golden ring. “What, what is that?” Looking down to see what shocked her, he responded with, ”That? That was the punishment I got the one time I loss a bet with Sonic. I still don’t know how he won.” “No. What…why do you have that symbol? Eggman shouldn’t know about this.” His eyebrows furrowed at the stupidity the female cat showed. “That is what I received when I loss a bet. Now what are you doing?” Reaching down to take off her right glove, the cerulean-haired cat pulled off her glove and showed the hedgehog her palm. Also on her right palm was the same golden ring tattoo that Shadow had.
